Montreal Eats: LOV


The day has come. For an extremely long time, I had been dreaming of a fancy-ish, trendy, fun and vegan restaurant in Montreal where both food and service were exceptional. LOV is it!

While there are many hot spots to grab a vegan bite around town (which I love supporting), in my opinion, none of these feel like a place to go for a special occasion, asย they are somewhat lacking in ambiance. LOV, on the other hand, has a relaxed and unhurried atmosphere, divine food, music to set the mood and extremely welcoming staff, making it the first of its kind.


First off, let’s start with the cocktails. We kicked off the evening with a yummy mocktail the pina koala (with a name like that, we had to try it!), which was great – a cocktail composed of kombucha, coconut, eucalyptus and pineapple! Also tried a cocktail made with kaffir lime leaf bitters – which was strong but delish.


We started the feast off with some lemon zest and fennel flavoured Cerignola olives and poutine. The poutine was made with hand-cut Russet potatoes, miso sauce and an out of this world faux cheese, the latter being made of cashews and coconut oil – none of that processed nonsense that is sometimes served in restaurants.


Below is the photogenic “hero” dish – sesame tempeh, peppers, eggplant, rapini, Napa cabbage and Thai basil. So good, I had to resist the strong urge to lick the bowl.


Next is the oyster mushroom, green bean and cashew cheese risotto, which was melt-in-your-mouth-good.


To conclude this beautiful meal, we had to go with the tiramisu, which tasted very much like a heavenly ice cream cake. It was phenomenal. Sweet and soft and chocolate-y!


The design of the restaurant is frankly spectacular. It was a mix of rustic vintage chic meets minimalismย sophistication, that reminded me of the Scandi restaurant, dรณttir, in Berlin.

My only suggestions for improvement would be to have more mocktails and to have the option to add protein (tofu/tempeh) to more dishes, as it’s currently only an option for the salads.

Service was flawless. The staff was charismatic and attentive. Our bartender Andy (we sat at the bar) was super sweet, helpful and extremely quick.

This is a perfect spot for girls night, or even for a first date (though I will never be going on a first date again ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I’ve been told the menu changes often as the chef is still experimenting. I’ll gladly be a guinea pig! ๐Ÿ˜‰
