Sweet potatoes aren’t just for fries or baby food anymore, although this smoothie is slightly reminiscent of my first years of existence (I’m lying – I can’t remember that far back 🙂 ). Kidding aside, sweet potatoes are mildly sweet and have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, making them great for chronic disease prevention, individuals suffering from inflammatory conditions as well as for athletes (heck, they’re great for everyone 🙂 ).
Sweet potatoes are great to consume at any point during the day due to their low glycemic index. The carbohydrates contained within sweet potatoes are released slowly into our bloodstream, giving us more stable energy levels, better control over our appetite and better concentration levels. This is why today I’ve decided to include them in the most important meal of the day – brekkie! These bright orange tubers will aid to sustain you throughout your mornings, as treacherous as they may be, and don’t we all need an energy boost?

Sweet Potato Smoothie
Yields: 2 incredibly luscious smoothies
- 1 cup mashed sweet potato
- 1 large and very ripe banana (frozen if this is possible)
- 2 Medjool dates
- 2 cups soy beverage
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- Handful of ice cubes
- Add to your blender and blend until creamy and smooth.
Smoothie for two.
