Here is a dessert worthy of the Aztecs, thanks to the very subtle chili taste. This recipe is easy as making toast, literally 🙂 . Take the following ingredients:
- 2 ripe avocadoes
- 4.5 tbsp. cocoa powder
- 4 tbsp. honey
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 3 tbsp. unsweetened almond milk
- 2 pinches of chili powder
- (Berries, for garnish)
and (gently) throw into a food processor. Blend until well-mixed (which should take 1-2 minutes). At this point in time, you can taste the avocadoes. Rest assured that once the dessert is cooled in the fridge, the avocado taste will magically disappear. Refrigerate for 15 minutes, garnish with berries and serve! If you wish, this recipe can also be placed in the freezer which will cause the mousse to crystallize and become more of an ice cream, which is equally fun.
This blogpost is the perfect opportunity to talk about some of chocolate`s strengths (such an opportunist I am mouhaha). In laboratories, chocolate has shown promise in helping prevent heart disease and some forms of cancer. Plus, though chocolate contains saturated fat (which dietitians generally recommend against), the type of fat in chocolate is called stearic acid and does not seem to affect blood cholesterol negatively.
Also, as many of us know, dark chocolate is wayyyy better for us than milk chocolate. The reason for this is that the dairy component in milk chocolate decreases cocoa`s antioxidant capacity. Boo-urns.
Got the blues? Chocolate is, for many, a great mood-boosting food. This may be because chocolate contains amandamide, a substance that acts similarly to cannabis when found in the body. I guess I should mention that the amounts of amandamide found in chocolate are quite minimal. To really feel amandamide`s effects, 100 kilograms of chocolate would need to be consumed (where do I sign up?), therefore, chocolate`s feel good effects are likely simply due to its exquisite taste. Makes sense.
All that being said, the following benefits are not a golden ticket to Willy Wonka`s chocolate factory nor to eat chocolate by the shovel-full. Remember, everything in moderation, including moderation! 🙂
For the grand finale, check out this mousse up close and personal. In the words of the crocodile hunter, “what a beaut!!”
